Vaccination

Vaccination is an important  part of Horse ownership to control and prevent disease and proof of a correctly completed vaccination schedule is often required to allow your horse to compete at certain shows and events.

To participate in such events or shows timing of vaccination is important and it is imperative to vaccinate within the guidelines. Failure to do so will require the vaccination schedule to restart.

The Jockey Club Guidelines are at present:

Primary vaccinations of Flu-Tet   21-92 days apart (ideally 4-6 wks apart)

1st booster Flu 150-215 days later ( approx 6mths)

Thereafter alternate Flu  /   Flu-Tet within 365 days of 1st booster

FEI Regulations- in addition to above;

Instead of the first booster, vaccination for influenza is required every 6mths (+ 21 days), the 21 days allowing horses to fit in with competitions as no horse is allowed to be vaccinated within 7 days of competition or entry into FEI stables.

Other than the commonly used influenza and tetanus vaccines, horses can also be vaccinated against other diseases eg  Herpesvirus, Rotavirus and Western Nile Virus. Use of these vaccines is usually based on an individual horse or yard's requirements .

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE DO NOT SEND OUT VACCINATION REMINDERS FOR HORSES.
